SHARE 2008: Student Volunteer Service Programming (renewal)

• $4,000 — Continue support for operational costs of this program that provides community service opportunities for SME students. During the 2004-05 school year, The East Fund previously granted $15,000 to SHARE over a three year period when the district discontinued its funding for the program.
• 1,800 students in 9th – 12th grades develop leadership, organizational, conflict resolution and/or citizenship skills in at least one SHARE project.
• Students find an inclusive place to connect to SME and the community in the 85+ SHARE projects. Serving the community in volunteer roles has been associated with a reduction in risky behaviors such as substance abuse.
