Wind Power: SME’s Own Turbine

- $10,618 — Purchase and install a vertical-axis wind turbine and tie it in to the SME energy grid.
- All students at SME will benefit. In the greater sense, the entire Shawnee Mission East community benefits, as well.
- In addition to limited energy savings, SME students will benefit by studying alternative energy sources and the Bernoulli principle. Concepts can be applied in science, math, and economics classes.
Energy generated will be displayed, giving students a first-hand view of the possibility and practicality of wind as an alternative energy source.
