Library Books on CD
Chris Larson and Kathi Knop
- $2,500 — Acquire initial collection of books on CD for Shawnee Mission East library. Audio books on CD will bring characters to life, improve reading skills, and boost confidence for our English and Special Education students.
- Students throughout the English curriculum and school-wide. CDs include 10 required-reading titles from the English Department, 10 titles requested from the Learning Center, and 17 popular fiction/non-fiction books for outside reading.
- These CDs will establish a new core collection in the library which will be available to all SME students. The collection will be expanded through the years with monies available through the district and Cappuccino Days.
Audio books have long been viewed by educators as beneficial. A reader’s speed and comprehension improve when hearing audio books while looking at a print copy of the book. Books on CD offer a durable format for the SME Library collection. This technology will assist SME in meeting the challenges of the “No Child Left Behind” initiative and in maximizing the potential of students.
