- $3,165 — Purchase new music for the concert band (seven pieces), symphonic band (12 pieces), and two jazz ensembles (12 pieces each).
- This music will impact roughly 140 band students initially. Because the music will kept for future use and will be made available to other Shawnee Mission schools, it will impact numerous additional students throughout the district over the years.
- The district’s budget does not adequately provide for the purchase of new musical literature. Vibrant, modern music helps recruit and retain musical talent and showcase band members’ skills in competitive events.
Mr. Harrison will select a wide range of musical literature beginning in the summer of 2008 and continuing through the summer of 2010. He will select music that is appropriate for the talent level of the student musicians.
