Link Crew Training - 2008 Refresher
Meredith Birt, Kathy Kessler and Hannah Pence
- $4,500 — Fund follow-up training in Colorado Springs of three teachers who serve as Link Crew Coordinators. Link Crew is a program providing an orientation and year-round support to help with successful transitions for freshmen into our school.
- Link Crew helps freshmen make connections with each other and fosters a sense of community within the school. Junior and senior students serve as mentors (Link Leaders) to provide ongoing guidance and encouragement to the freshmen.
- An increased sense of community for freshmen is expected to result in an increase in attendance, a decrease in discipline referrals, and an improvement in academic performance.
The school envisions a multi-year commitment to the Link Crew transition program. Each year, additional components of the program will be implemented and improvements will be made based on experience. Studies show that if students have a positive experience in their first year of high school, their chances for overall high school success increase exponentially.
More specifically, funds will be used as follows: $2,000 for registration and three nights of hotel accommodations; $1,000 for airfare; $1,000 for three substitutes; $500 for motivational materials/incentives for the Link Leaders.
