Responsibilities of Governing Board Member*
Summary of Position
Shawnee Mission East Educational Excellence Fund Governing Board members develop, clarify and prioritize the expectations that guide the work of the Fund through communication with various constituencies in the East community. Members direct the resources to meet those expectations.
Qualifications
- Be committed to the Mission and Vision as stated in the rules. Commit to a vision of excellent education at Shawnee Mission East, articulate what that vision is, use the vision to guide decisions, and demonstrate that commitment through personal actions.
- Be committed to private investment in public schools and to the benefits of the public-private partnership; financial benefits and benefits of strong, enduring connectivity of the school to the community.
- Be familiar with SMEEEF Rules, with SMEEEF priorities, with SMEEEF Guidelines and Procedures for giving grants and with the background and history of the SMEEEF. Follow the Rules, Guidelines, Procedures and Principles.
- Be able to make decisions in the interests of all students at East.
- Attend all SMEEEEF meetings.
- Ability to consider issues from the pint of view of narrow constituencies as well as broad constituencies.
- Ability to be visionary
- Ability to listen and to communicate effectively
- Desire to improve opportunities for learning for East students now and in the future.
- Keep information about individual donors in confidence unless directed otherwise by the donor.
- Actively participate in at least one East Fund committee and be a part of at least one East Fund activity.
- Assist in recruiting others to participate in SMEEEEF activities
- Personally contribute financially to SMEEEF on an annual basis.
