The Shawnee Mission East Education Excellence Fund is an affiliated fund of the Shawnee Mission Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization. Digital Darkroom - 5 Apple Macbook Pros with sufficient memory and hard drive to run the Adobe Design Suite software. This Digital Darkroom helps prepare photography students for careers in photography and design by giving them an opportunity to learn basic digital photography along with learning more advanced techniques.
Nook a Love for Reading - 15 CPO Nook Simple Teach readers and 5 CPO Color Nooks. The grant uses e-readers to promote enthusiasm for reading and encourages reading through book clubs. The 5 color Nooks will be loaded with newspapers and magazines for library use.
Laptop computer for ImPACT Concussion Testing management - 2 MacBook Pro and 2 printers to be used by the school nurse adn Athletic Trainer to administer the ImPACT Concussion Management Test to student athletes.
SME Late Bus - Funding a late bus two days a week for students staying after school to work with teachers, participate in after school activities, and take part in the East for Excellence tutoring program.
Master Schedule-Building Workshop - Funding for two staff to attend a workshop that provides training to complete the process of creating students' class schedules by combining traditional concepts with the use of data and technology.
iPads and Classroom Walkthrough Program for administrators - 4 Apple iPad2 and a classroom walkthrough building site license. Administrators can use these iPads to gather classroom information for on-going professional development.
World Language iPad Learning Lab - 15 iPads to provide studetns with new ways to consume and create material as well as be an active part of the learning experience. Built-in apps native to the iPad include language listening activities, music, podcasts, maps, and a voice memo app for recording speaking practice.
New Wireless Copier/Printer/Scanner for Debate/Forensics/Mock Trail - Multi-purpose machine that can print, copy, and scan research materials for debate, forensics, and mock trail.
Portable Sink and Accessories for Ms. Peggy Bell’s classroom - a portable sink and EZ Flow Water Sensor along with an EZ Fill and Roll Dolly. This sink will be used in Ms. Bell’s special education classroom for science and art projects. Currently this classroom does not have access to water in the room and must haul water buckets and pitchers to their classroom if water is required for experiments and any cleanup.
Document Camera for English Classroom - 12 document cameras for each of the English classrooms that will be used to show samples of student writing and demonstrations of editing and annotation techniques to the entire classroom.
The Shawnee Mission East Education Excellence Fund—The East Fund—invites students, parents, faculty, staff, and administrators to enhance learning and teaching at SME by submitting proposals for student programs, professional development, and technology.
To apply, complete a Grant Application and return to The East Fund mailbox in the office or send to Julie Sykes at sykesfamily@kc.rr.com. There are three grant cycles for the 2010-2011 school year -- late summer, fall, and late winter.

The East Fund is offering custom-designed yard signs with your student's activities. Download the order form today.
The signs measure 23.5x18.5 and are made of 1/4 inch Sintra. They can be personalized as you like it, with your student's name or school activity for $50. You can also add 3 additional activities for $10 each.
